TATER TOURS TO THE SOUTHWEST PARKS & CAPITAL TRIP

OCT. 21ST – NOV. 2ND   

Oct. 21st (Thurs) :  Fly day only into Albuquerque, New Mexico airport!  Hotel Accommodations at    the Fairfield Inn, which has free shuttle from the airport. (505) 247-1621 (2 nights) Continental Breakfast included.  A Tater Tour meeting will be held that evening!                 

Oct. 22nd Fri:  Participate in two walks (Nob Hill and Old Town) in Albuquerque!On the Old Town/Downtown Albuquerque Walk you will stroll through charming "Old Town" where the city was born, walk past museums and through historic residential neighborhoods to downtown Albuquerque.  In the afternoon, walk the Nob Hill Funky Frolic trail that takes you through some of Albuquerque's oldest neighborhoods featuring classic southwestern homes as well as more contemporary designs. You will also experience a portion of Central Avenue near the University of NM where there are quaint shops and restaurants frequented by the college community.  Drive back to our hotel.                 

Oct. 23rd (Sat) : Depart our hotel and drive to Santa Fe where we will spend all day walking the Capital and the College/Museum Walks.   On the “New Mexico Capital Adventure” you will be passing through the unique New Mexico State Capital, the Palace of the Governors, the oldest government building in the US, and the San Miguel Chapel, the oldest church in the US.  The St. Johns College and Museums Sywalk Trail is on a combination of city streets and dirt pathways. The walk passes three units of the Museum of New Mexico, and two other museums; and finally pass through an interesting city park with a series of wise quotations carved on the backs of                   the benches.  Hotel accommodations at the Fairfield Inn, Santa Fe for 2 nights. Oct. 24th (Sun) :   Drive to Los Alamos for the Bandelier National Monument event. This walk passes        the ancient ruins of the Ancestral Pueblo Peoples as you hike up and down the many stair steps and you will also view the abundant flora and fauna of the park. The Main Ruins Loop, with the extension to Alcove House, plus the Falls Trail to the Upper Falls Overlook, is 10km (rated 3); the 11km option (rated 4) continues to the Lower       Falls Overlook.  In the afternoon, we will participate in the Los Alamos Historic Sites Walk that passes through the historic community that is home to the Los Alamos National Laboratory and includes stunning views of the Jemez and Sangre de Christo Mountains and Plateaus. The walk takes you through quiet city streets and through    neighborhoods that were devastated by the 2001 Cerro Grande fire. Enjoy this invigorating walk above 7,300 feet elevation, take in the historic atmosphere embedded in this scientific community and view the many historic sites along the walk.  Return to our hotel. 

Oct. 25th(Mon) :   Sightseeing Day ONLY!!!  We deserve it!!!  Depart our hotel for White Sands       National Monument.  Hotel accommodations in Alamogordo, New Mexico at the Comfort Inn & Suites (575) 434-4200 Continental Breakfast included.

Oct. 26th (Tues):   Drive to the Carlsbad Caverns for a tour!!  At this time, I do not know which tour we will be taking.  Possible volksmarch!!!  Continue to El Paso, Texas for hotel Accommodations at Fairfield Inn & Suites (915) 845-3100 Continental Breakfast Included.  (For those that need the state of Texas, we may do a 5 KM in
El Paso!)                 

Oct. 27th (Wed):   Drive to Tucson, Arizona for year round event located at Sabino Canyon The 10/12 route is a paved route that crosses Sabino Creek seven times on stone Bridges.  The varied desert vegetation gives way to the relaxing riparian atmosphere of the stream and canyon.  Hotel accommodations at the Start/Finish for the walk.   Comfort Suites (520) 298-2300 Continental Breakfast included                 

Oct. 28th (Thurs):   Drive to downtown Tucson for University year round event.  This route meanders through historic parts of Tucson, the city center, county courthouse, several museums and the University of Arizona. It goes past the Union Pacific RR station where Wyatt Earp shot one of the Clanton Bros gang.   Continue onto Phoenix for the Capital Walk.  The trail passes many museums and walks to the Capital.  Hotel  accommodations in Phoenix-North at Fairfield Inn (602) 548-8888 Continental Breakfast included. 

Oct. 29th (Fri) :  Drive to near Sedona, Arizona for the Village of Oak Creek walk.  The trail is on Rock Pathway from the Village of Oak Creek Trailhead to Sedona Trailhead and return. Enjoy vibrant colors of the desert as well as fantastic views of Bell Rock, Courthouse Butte and other landmarks.  Bell Rock is considered
one of Sedona’s spiritual vortex centers and many people believe the rock energizes and calms those upon its slopes.  Continue to Flagstaff for hotel accommodations for 2 nights at the Hampton Inn (928) 913-0900   Continental Breakfast included.
 

Oct. 30th (Sat) :   Drive to Grand Canyon for year round event The trail is on paved and stone sidewalks or packed gravel along the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Along with the spectacular views, the route takes you through Grand Canyon Village with its gift shops, restaurants, historic information.  In the afternoon, travel back to Flagstaff to participate in the University walk, where the S/F is close to our hotel.  The University walk goes through Northern Arizona University, along a city cemetery, winds around the historic downtown area, goes past the Union Pacific RR station, and follows some of Route 66.                 

Oct. 31st (Sun) :   Drive to Las Vegas, Nevada, with a stop in Boulder City to participate in the Lake Mead Nat’l Recreation Area year round event.  This trail walks along the scenic desert that follows the historic former
rail bed thru five tunnels that were used to carry supplies for construction of Hoover Dam. There are many scenic vistas of Lake Mead, and mountain / desert flora and fauna along this trail. 
Continue our drive to Las Vegas for hotel accommodations at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, the Start/Finish for the  famous Strip Walks.  (702) 895-9810 Continental Breakfast included

Nov. 1st (Mon):    Participate in the Strip Walks at your convenience!  Walk both the West and East Strip walks that will take you in and out of the casinos all the way to the Stratosphere Casino (Needle) Trust me, it’ll take you all day to do both these walks.  (2 6KM Walks available.   Enjoy a fantastic show if you so desire on the Strip! 

Nov. 2nd (Tues)  :   Fly Day Only back to our Home Destinations!  Reminiscing a great TATER TOUR!

ADD-ON TO HAWAII:  (LET ME KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, IF INTERESTED!!!) Need to know numbers before I price the trip

Dates: November 2nd – 6th

When others are flying home, we will fly nonstop from Las Vegas to Honolulu on Hawaiian Airlines on November 2nd. The trip will include airfare to/from Honolulu back Las Vegas, (approximately $700.00 rt) transportation, hotel accommodations on Waikiki Beach for 4 nights and entrance fees to Diamond Head and 5 walk credit only fees. We will also tour Pearl Harbor.  We will fly back to Las Vegas on November 6th, where we will have to possibly stay at the Fairfield Inn & Suites for 1 night on our return and then people will fly out on the 7th to their final destinations.
