FROM GAITHERSBURG,  MARYLAND TO THE NORTH CAROLINA COASTLINE AREA

MAY 14^TH – 17^TH 2010 

(This trip is being co-sponsored with the walking club of Gaithersburg, MD.  Anyone else that is interested, please join Tater Tours!)           

May 14^th (Fri) :   Depart the Gunther Parking Lot, near Baltimore, Maryland (with a pickup near  Rockville) and drive to New Bern, North Carolina for year round event.  Walk through history in North Carolina’s second oldest town, settled  in 1710. Several landmarks as the route goes through historic neighborhoods;  along the waterfront at the convergence of the Neuse and Trent Rivers; Capitol Building and home of the Colonial Governor of NC. Stroll through the                 old downtown and the “birthplace of Pepsi”.  Continue our journey to Atlantic Beach for hotel accommodations along the Atlantic Ocean for two glorious nights! Sheraton Hotel (252) 240-1155   Continental Breakfast   NOT included.                 

May 15^th (Sat)  :  A short drive today!!  The distance between our two walks today is a total of 5 miles!!!  Our first walk is in Beaufort, a historic waterfront district, rich in History!  Visit the Old Burying Ground, Pirate Beard’s local residence and Many of the 100 restored historic homes of the 18^th & 19^th centuries.  Have some Great Seafood for lunch!  In the afternoon, we will do the Morehead City year round event.  This walk goes through campus of Cartaret  Community College and a quiet residential area and along the historic downtown waterfront.  Return to our hotel. 

May 16^th (Sun) :  In the morning, we will take a short drive to Pine Knoll Shores for a nature     walk through a maritime forest, paleo dunes and salt marshes of the Roosevelt Nature Preserve on the NC Birding Trail with views of Bogue Sound and through neighboring residential areas on one of the NC barrier islands.   We will then journey to Wilmington, North Carolina and tour the Battleship USS North Carolina.  Hotel accommodations at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Wilmington. (910) 791-8082   Continental Breakfast included. 

May 17^th (Mon.) :  The last day we will participate in a walk in Wilmington that passes through historical residential areas, along the waterfront, and out to the Cape Fear Museum.  Visit the many shops and the Old City Market.  After lunch, start our journey back to Maryland and return home.

$50.00 will reserve your seat on this great trip to the North Carolina Area!  (Non-refundable)

One Payment will be due on March 29, 2010!
