NORTHEAST FALL FOLIAGE & CAPITOL TOUR 2010

OCT.  6th – 15th   2010
Note:
the trip is "SOLD OUT" and a waiting list has been started

Oct. 6th(Wed) :     Depart from Baltimore, Maryland and drive to Albany, New York for CAPITOL Walk! This trail follows city streets & sidewalks passing many Albany and State historical buildings and monuments including the Capitol building, Executive Mansion, museums, restored city homes, and the new pedestrian bridge which connects Albany to the Hudson River shoreline and past the site of Revolutionary War activities and the former Union Train Station.   Drive to Saratoga Springs for hotel accommodations for 2 nights at Hilton Garden Inn, Saratoga Springs, New York (518) 587-1500  Continental Breakfast included and Start/Finish for one of the walks that we plan on doing in Saratoga Springs.                

Oct. 7th (Thurs):     Participate in year round event from hotel in the morning at your convenience. Saratoga Spa Park is a National Historic Landmark known for its cultural diversity.  The glorious setting includes the only spouting geyser "east of the Mississippi," natural mineral springs, and its mile-long Avenue of the Pines. It is home to the National Museum of Dance, Lincoln Mineral Bath, Gideon Putnam Hotel, the new Saratoga Automobile Museum, and SPAC (summer home of the NYC Ballet & Philadelphia Orchestra), and the Hall of Springs.  The walk in the afternoon is on city streets & sidewalks, passing many Victorian homes & shop fronts, past world-famous mineral springs, the 19th-century Canfield Casino & Italian Gardens in the city’s park, the historic Thoroughbred Race Course & National Racing Museum, and Skidmore College.  Return to our hotel. 

Oct. 8th (Fri) 
:  Drive to Montpelier, Vermont at participate in CAPITOL Walk!  The 10K Trail is rated 3and includes two long hills, with beautiful views of the area from Hubbard Park tower. The 5 & 7KM trail rated 1+ remain along the river, visiting the capitol, going to a Peace Garden, and finishes up walking through the city. All routes pass many homes with interesting architectural styles.       In the afternoon we will be driving a short distance from the city to visit Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks. Hotel accommodations for 2 nights at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Montpelier (802) 229-2222 Continental Breakfast included.                       

Oct. 9th (Sat) :   Drive to Stowe to participate in year round event.  This trail is in the heart of the Green Mountains, a place of year round recreational activities and spectacular  fall colors. You will walk along a stream, on a recreation
path, through a wooded area and have a spectacular view of Mt Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak. In the afternoon,
we will stop at
Cold Hollow Cider Mill and Ben & Jerry’s.  Return to our hotel

Oct. 10th  (Sun) :   Drive to Augusta, Maine, traveling past the scenic Fall Foliage!  Participate in  CAPITOL Walk! 
This trail will take you on paths through the Pine Tree State Arboretum and along roads with views of the State Capital, Fort Western and the Kennebec River.  Drive to Freeport, Maine for hotel accommodations at the
Holiday Inn Express, (207) 865-9020 Go to L.L. Bean for those that want to go shopping!  Continental Breakfast included. 

Oct. 11th (Mon):   Drive to Kennebunk to participate in year round event.  This walk visits the grounds of St. Anthony’s Monastery, then passes the many boutiques and galleries of Kennebunk Lower Village and Kennebunkport (Dock Square) and proceeds alongside the Kennebunk River out to the Walker Point area (summer residence of former President George H.W. and Barbara Bush). After passing by the Monastery grounds, the 5 km trail proceeds along beautiful Gooch’s Beach and into Dock Square.  In the afternoon, we will travel to Portsmouth, New Hampshire for another walk.  This event highlights the long history of Portsmouth, first settled as "Strawbery Banke' in 1630, and its
role in the War for Independence, the Civil War, and its current roll as one of New Hampshires few seaports. Continue
on to Concord, New Hampshire for hotel accommodations at the Start/Finish,

Oct. 12th(Tues) :  Participate in Concord CAPITOL Walk at your convenience. The trail includes the State Capitol Building, historic downtown Concord and the President  Franklin Pierce manse and gravesite.  Then drive
to Salem, Massachusetts to participate in year round event.  A very bewitching city, settled in 1626.  Historic Salem
is noted for the 1692 Witchcraft hysteria, its maritime tradition and the architectural splendor of its McIntire Era Federal homes. Salem frigates opened the Far East trade and provided the wealth which produced America's first millionaires. Trail passes the Derby Wharf Lighthouse and the Maritime National Historic Site as well as Nathaniel Hawthorne's
House of the Seven Gables. Drive outside of Boston for hotel accommodations in

Oct. 13th(Wed):   Drive into Boston for all day of walking and sightseeing! Included in the walk Fees is the Freedom Trail event.  This walk passes the State Capitol and explores a plethora of historic sites, monuments, museums and landmarks. There is one short, steep hill. Boston, known as “America’s Walking City,” is steeped in history and tradition.  Other walks from the Visitor Center are available if you so desire to walk and have time. Drive to suburb, Norwood for hotel accommodations at Hampton Inn (781) 769-7000 Continental Breakfast included.

Oct. 14th (Thurs) :   Drive to Providence, Rhode Island for CAPITOL Walk in the morning.     This event passes restored historic homes, the impressive State House, Brown University, a revitalized downtown including a river walk,
and a newly constructed mall with many fine restaurants. The walk route consists of two 5 Km loops.
 In the afternoon, we will travel to Mystic,  Connecticut for a walk that is a shipbuilding center with a lively Main St. and over 75 shops, restaurants and former sea captains' homes. The Mystic Seaport Museum, Mystic Marine life Aquarium, and Olde Mystic Village make the town the top tourist attraction in Connecticut. Hotel accommodations at Comfort Inn

Oct. 15th (Fri):   Drive to Trenton, New Jersey for Capital sanctioned walk! (That hard to get Capital
Walk!!!) 
After this walk, we will drive back to near Baltimore, Maryland.  (For an extra fee, I will make reservations
at the Holiday Inn Express, located near BWI Airport, that has free shuttle from the hotel).
