Hopi Overlay Jewelry
Overlay jewelry is made by applying silver
layers, one over another, to create detailed scenes, masks, or
patterns. Hopi overlay takes the process further by delicately
incising the lower layer of metal to enhance the design.
These beautiful Sterling
Silver Overlay items were purchased on Second Mesa on the Hopi
Reservation. Most of the designs represent water as the Hopi are dry
farmers and rely on water from the heavens. Also, you will see
feather designs. These are prayer feathers and are commonly left at
shrines on the Hopi Reservation.
