Hopi

Hopi Jewelry, Kachinas and More

About Hopi Overlay Jewelry
Overlay jewelry is made by applying silver layers, one over another, to create detailed scenes, masks, or patterns. Hopi overlay takes the process further by delicately incising the lower layer  of metal to enhance the design.

These beautiful Sterling Silver Overlay items were purchased on Second Mesa on the Hopi Reservation. Most of the designs represent water as the Hopi are dry farmers and rely on water from the heavens. Also, you will see feather designs. These are prayer feathers and are commonly left at shrines on the Hopi Reservation.

Sterling Roadrunner Bracelet

Hallmarked with RK, the initials of Hopi artist Raymond Kyasyousie. This is a nice sterling cuff bracelet weighing 24 grams on my scale.

It measures 6 inches around with a 1 and 1/4 inch opening for a total of 7 and 1/4 inches. Fits a small or medium wrist. The width is 1/2 inch.

This is traditional Hopi overlay. The bracelet depicts Road runner birds, plant and water symbols.  Any shadows are due to the photograpy. It is a stunning polished silver bracelet with dark background for the overlay.

Hopi Hand Painted
Beaded Corn Symbol Necklace

Hopi Hand Painted Necklace

While her father, a master Kachina Carver worked, this young woman started her own business. She took wooden circles and painted them with traditional Hopi designs. This is a hand painted corn and rain symbol pendant 1.5 inches in diameter.

Then she found matching beads and beaded the necklace. This two strand necklace measures 24 inches long. It has a lobster claw clasp.

This is a beautiful piece of Hopi Folk Art all hand made and hand painted.

It is not signed. I purchased it directly from the artist at the Heard Museum Hopi Carvers show so I know it is authentic and one of a kind.

Price: $45.00
